Two Rivers Mansion in Donelson, Tennessee

For the last two years, I have served as an interpreter at Two Rivers Mansion in Donelson, Tennessee. A historic site that has two nineteenth century buildings on property, Two Rivers serves its community in several ways. It hosts events from weddings to the local farmers market, as well as provides tours to the community on a limited basis. Two Rivers will also serve as a chapter in my dissertation.

The mansion, built for David H. and William Elizabeth McGavock by enslaved labor in 1859, was inhabited by the McGavock family for three generations until 1965, when the last heir died and the property was purchased by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. Today the 14-acre tract, which includes the mansion and one of Nashville’s oldest brick house built in 1802, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
